About Scope & Field
Scope & Field is a UK shop for microscopes and science kit, stocked with a small range on purpose and built around the idea that the right instrument plus a decent guide is worth more than a catalogue of two hundred models. We sell to hobbyists, to families and home educators, and to schools, and we write a guide for every type of microscope we stock so you can choose with the same information we'd use ourselves.
Who we are
Scope & Field was founded by manufacturing engineers and physicists, so the team understands better than most how much the quality of an instrument decides what you actually see. A microscope with good glass and a steady stage shows a beginner cells, crystals and pond life on the first evening. A poor one shows a blur, and it usually ends up in a cupboard.
After years working in online retail and distribution, the team put the two together and set up a UK shop for microscopes that people can buy with confidence. That means a short range chosen for its optics and build, plain descriptions that say what an instrument can't do as well as what it can, and a real answer from someone who knows the kit when you email with a question.
The retail side shapes the shop as much as the science does. Buying specialist kit online tends to go wrong in the same few places, such as vague specifications, unclear returns and warranties that are hard to claim. So every product page gives the manufacturer's specification, you have 14 days to change your mind, and if an instrument develops a fault we handle the warranty claim with the manufacturer for you.
Who the shop is for
Three groups, mainly. Adults with a hobby that benefits from a closer look, whether that's pond life, insects, coins, minerals or electronics. Families and home educators buying a first microscope for a child and wanting one that actually works. And schools, clubs and home education groups buying several units, who we're happy to quote for. If you're not sure which type of microscope you need, our five-minute guide settles it, and if you'd rather ask, the contact page reaches us directly.
What we stock and why
We've started with Levenhuk, a European optics brand whose hobby and school microscopes come with glass lenses, mains power and an experiment kit in the box, and we're adding Bresser. Every microscope on the site is one we'd buy for the job it's listed for, and every product page says who it suits and who should choose something else. We don't sell toy microscopes with a 1200x sticker and a plastic lens, because they put people off the subject.
Where your order comes from
Orders are packed and dispatched from our warehouse in Northern Ireland and sent tracked to every UK address. They usually go out within 1 to 2 working days, UK delivery is free on orders over £100, and the full details are on the delivery page. Every instrument comes with a 14-day return period and the manufacturer's warranty, which we handle for you; see returns and warranty.
