Magnification

A 15x or 20x plan eyepiece with a 30 mm barrel, for any microscope whose eyepiece tubes take that size. Plan means the eyepiece is corrected for a flat field, so the picture stays sharp at the edge of the circle as well as the centre, which Bresser pairs with better overall image quality. It's a way of raising the magnification of a stereo microscope without touching the objectives.

Bresser's examples of a fit are the Analyth ICD and the Science ETD-101. Its other 30 mm eyepieces are listed for the Science ETD-201 and the Science TFM-201, TFM-301 and Infinity, so measure your tube or check the manual before ordering. A binocular head needs two, and each sells singly.

It's black aluminium. Our guide to magnification explains why swapping a 10x eyepiece for a 20x enlarges the picture without adding detail, and the rest of the eyepieces are in microscope accessories.

Is it right for you?

Good for

  • More magnification on a stereo microscope with 30 mm tubes
  • A sharper edge than a standard eyepiece gives
  • Replacing a lost eyepiece on an Analyth ICD or Science ETD-101

Not for

  • Microscopes with 23.2 mm or 30.5 mm tubes
  • Adding resolution; a stronger eyepiece only enlarges what the objective resolves
  • Measuring; it has no scale
