A 2x front lens for the Biorit ICD CS, in both its 10x to 20x and 5x to 20x versions. It fits in front of the objectives and doubles whatever the microscope is set to, so the small structures on an insect, a seed or a printed circuit that are a blur at 20x become readable.

With it fitted the working distance, the gap between the lens and the object, is 80 mm, which still leaves room for tweezers or a probe. The lens is black aluminium, 105 g, and Bresser lists it for the Biorit ICD CS alone (article numbers 5802520 and 5802530), so it isn't the one for the older Biorit ICD or ICD LL, which take a different lens.

Doubling the power halves the width of the view and thins the depth of field, so it suits looking at one small thing closely rather than scanning a tray. Our magnification guide explains that trade-off, and the other stereo parts are in microscope accessories.

Is it right for you?

Good for

  • Reading the fine detail on insects, seeds and minerals under a Biorit ICD CS
  • Schools that want one more step of power without a second microscope
  • Coins, stamps and circuit boards at double the usual magnification

Not for

  • The Biorit ICD or Biorit ICD LL, which take their own 1x and 4x lenses
  • Scanning a wide area; the view is half as wide with it fitted
  • Compound microscopes
