Two hundred oversized cover glasses, 24 by 50 mm, in Boro 3.3 borosilicate glass. Bresser recommends them for plankton, cell culture media and skin scrapes from koi and ornamental fish, where a bigger cover holds more liquid, so there's more to search through and the sample dries out more slowly.

A cover glass is part of the optical path, and most objectives are designed around a thickness of 0.17 mm. Boro 3.3 is a pure white, smooth glass chosen for surface and optical quality, and it passes more ultraviolet than soda lime glass, which is why Bresser also recommends it for fluorescence microscopy.

The glasses arrive pre-cleaned in a plastic box that is vacuum sealed with a drying agent inside. For a pond dipper with a Levenhuk Rainbow 50L PLUS, one of these over a few drops of water covers a far larger area than a standard square slip.

Our pond life guide explains what to look for in that drop, and the rest of our slides and cover slips are listed together.
