Sensor

The MikroCam II is Bresser's USB 3.0 camera range for lab microscopes, in four Sony sensors. USB 3.0 is up to eight times faster than the MikroCam SP's USB 2.0, so live frames stay above 25 a second, which Bresser says matters most when watching live microorganisms. The sensors are also sensitive enough for short exposures in low light, at high magnification or with contrast techniques. Each has a C-mount thread and 23.2, 30 and 30.5 mm adapters.

The 12 MP has a 7.53 by 5.64 mm IMX226 at 4000 by 3000. The 20 MP 1 inch has a 13.06 by 8.8 mm IMX183 at 5440 by 3648, enough to record roughly a 10x/22 eyepiece's field. The 5 MP HIS has an 8.45 by 7.07 mm IMX264 global shutter sensor, exposures down to 1/50,000 s. The 9 MP 4K 1 inch has a 14.13 by 7.45 mm IMX305, also global shutter, and 4K video up to 30 frames a second.

The three larger sensors can show dark corners on some microscopes, which the 1x reduction lens corrects, and Bresser rules them out for the ETD-201 stereo microscope.
