Bresser Prepared Slides Set, 10 Slides
Bresser Prepared Slides Set, 10 Slides
Ships free in any order over £100, so it's worth adding to your microscope order.
Ten prepared slides that Bresser singles out for thin, well-made sections with fine detail and good staining, aimed at schools and amateur microscopists. It's a small set, chosen for quality over quantity.
Two of the ten come from water: diatoms, single-celled algae that live inside glassy shells, and Volvox, a green alga whose cells join up into rolling spheres. From plants there's a maize stem and a tomato leaf in cross-section, an onion root tip with its cells caught dividing, and a lily anther with pollen. From animals, a fly's head, a cheek smear, a human sperm smear and mitosis in an animal cell.
The set weighs 85 g. It needs a microscope that lights from below, and the onion root tip and the cheek smear show well at 400x on a Levenhuk Rainbow 50L.
To see the diatoms and Volvox alive, our pond life guide explains how to collect them. The 25-slide Bresser set is the next step up, and our other prepared sets are listed together.
